View Full Version : Recompile the default kernel?

Hey All,

Forgive me if this is a n00b question, but is it possible to recompile the default kernel? There was one thing I needed to change in my kernel, and I recompiled but I created a custom kernel, 2.6.10-kevkernel (based on 2.6.10-5-686-smp). I would prefer to not have a custom kernel, so is there any way I can simply "adjust" the default kernel and re-compile it with the setting change I need?

My thought process is that when the next stable kernel comes out, I would prefer to use that, and I fear if I am using a custom kernel, apt-get might not pick up the new kernel, so I may never know about it. Although since I still have the default kernel installed, I would assume that when a few version comes out, it would be upgraded, or at least recognized, but I'm not sure.
