this release is a big deal(http://gcc.gnu.org/gcc-4.0/changes.html). i hope 4.0 makes it into breezy and they compile all the software using it. 4.0 contains some nice optimizations, so things should in theory run faster.

rock on GCC!

You can actually hear all the gentoo'ers moaning (or panting, depends) from a distance, can't you ?

It would be great to get this in breezy, but hopefully not v4.0 - 4.1 would be nice, but at the very least 4.0.1.

they have been testing it for sometime(albiet its not bugfree i would imagine). fedora core 4 test 2 has it included. the new apple OS was compiled with a branch of GCC 4.0. i think, if it doesnt break tons of code, then it might be ready.

if fedora core can do it ....... :)

"In theory" is a phase I like to avoid. I would rather let Fedora bite the 4.0 bullet on their next release and if all goes well do that in whatever comes after Breezy. Everything I read about 4.0 "speed ups" have to do with KDE, so it would seem like Gnome distro might wait a second to hop on the train.
