I was reading an article and I was just wondering. Maybe some of us pronounce it differently.

Heres how I say it:
oo bunt oo

'oo' as in kangaroo

edit: rats. I just found an old topic about it. Oh well, post anyways :x

I used to pronounce it You-Boon-Too but I read somewhere on the Ubuntu site that it is pronounced ooo-boon-too.

I love the OS but the name is a bit too esoteric.

the only reason why I call it "you bun too" is that its you, bun rymes with fun and too...

People the correct pronounciation is more like u-boon-too.

Where some people say oo-boon-too the oo is actually a much shorter sound than the last two syllables.

It's Lie-nux, either you don't know how to string two vowls together or you've never heard torvalds telling everyone how it's pronounced.

Yes we speak differently but I think we should at least try and pronounce names right. If you introduced yourself to me I would try my utmost to pronounce your name right.

Whoa, why so bitter? It's just a name. If I was a prick too, I'd tell you that you clearly aren't good at capitalization or spelling, but I'm not. So please just relax...

No need to sware ThrobbingBrain66, the inability to put two vowls together is a nasty ailment; much like my own inabillity to use English (even if it's my first language).

Instead I'll speak in really bad Thai.

I call it ubu, but pronouncing it would be: u-bun-two.
Ubu it!

I pronounce it oo-bun-two. I hear alot of people pronouncing it oo-boon-two, but its too hard for me to get that boon sound in the middle when I say it fast. Although it does sound more African with boon in the middle instead of bun (as in Hamburger bun).

I've always pronounced it oo-bun-too. To me, trying to say oo-boon-too makes it sound like you're trying to hard. oo-bun-too americanizes the word (if it's said differently to begin with) and makes it less intimidating imho.
