I use 1024x768 on mine. Anything higher just makes stuff look too small to my eyes. Just curious what others use.

Thats because a LCD has a native resolution that cannot be changed as it is set in hardware, the amount of physical pixels on the lcd panel.

So in essence, you should always run your desktop resolution at the native resolution of the lcd.

This does not apply to crts.

Woah, it's scary how many users don't even find out LCD only work correctly with one resolution.
Or is this no longer the case?

If I would have known beforehand, I probably never would have bought one. :(

Once they have one, I meant. I didn't know before neither.

I really don't understand your problem though:
"I do not like this resolution as it's too large of a screen relative to the typical website."

I think some 17" monitors can support 1280x1024 as the native resolution, and anything less looks fuzzy. This is why I specifically went for a 20" LCD with a native resolution of 1600 x 1200.

I find it shocking just walking around work looking at the number of people that haven't got it set up to its native resolution... Thankfully I was given a CRT that runs nicely at 1600 x 1280, I will defend my right to keep that old CRT, I REALLY don't want to be given of the "better" LCD monitors...

I thought CRT were actually better (in image/color quality) than LCD.

Hence better in quotes... I said better because that is the perception.

Should you not be running at 1600x1200 as that matches the display aspect ratio ?

I like our laptop, 15.4 inches and 1600x1200. A high resolution makes it possible to have more windows open at the same time. 1024x768 is way to low for me.

I can't use 1024x768 for longer than a few minutes. I need 1400x1050 or higher to do any serious work.

For me the most significant computer upgrade in 20 years was a widescreen LCD with 1680x1050. It is clearer and sharper than any CRT I've ever used. Working with 2 full sized windows side by side is an amazing productivity enhancer.

Agreed, that's why I hate using my laptop so much as it's only 1024x768.
