I have quake tux as my log in screen for my ubuntu. I always liked Tux for Linux as a whole didn't really matter which version over before Ubuntu. I think he would look cute as a mascot even for ubuntu too. As a mascot. Something like Ceasar with the white roman robs and the green headband on top.
