I see replies where the exact command line that the poster wants someone to try is neatly enveloped by a box, making it very clear what is intended.
How do you guys do that??

Actually, if you click on the GO ADVANCED button when posting, there are options for including files, images, quotes, code (that's what you're asking about), php, html, etc.

As chaosgeisterchen said, just enclose the text in the appropriate tags:

To create this box around stuff, type your text and replace tag with code, quote, html, etc.

you can always click on the reply with quote button ---> http://ubuntuforums.org/images/buttons/quote.gif in a post to see how it was composed.
