Lo again all!
I'm trying to find inspiration to write for the website (seopher.com) so if you've had an especially good Linux experience (not necessarily with Ubuntu), post it up!
I'm looking for guest writers too so...
Anyway, anyone got any good tales?

Well I'm pretty new to the game, but when my friend tried to install Windows MCE on his computer and it just ... didn't work, with drivers and such. It wouldn't connect to the Internet, the resolution was messed up etc. After trying to fix it for a while I popped in an Ubuntu 6.06 Live CD and everything just worked. I installed it as his primary OS until his Restore CD:s arrived from Dell and it seemed to work pretty well for him.
It was fun showing him that Linux can be easier than manually configuring everything :)
Edit: does this qualify for the thread?

The fact how rarely one needs to use the keyboard while using shortcuts towards infinity...

I think my best experience is the overall experience of being able to have a very cheap second hand machine that works fast and has an up to date OS and software. To top it off it is secure, easy to manage, and fun to use.

Hehe +1. I love shortcuts and the CLI ;) Especially since I use a laptop computer, and I don't like touchpads much.

I second or third it, I love that I do not need to use mouse in ratpoison and links/conkeror, especially hated using mouse when I got my notebook with this small stick.
Best linux experience is when I install it on an older machine and the owner gets surprised how fast is it compared to win and it's antiviruses.

Being able to make a backup of my ~ after a hard drive crash, just using a command line and my CD burner.
Saved me a lot of trouble that day...

Oh my.. typo. I am fully sharing your opinion as the keyboard has become my major input device. Shortcuts are simply too great.

A couple of days before football world cup i installed xgl and compiz. That was an experiance by it self, but when i showed it to my friends, they were amazed and one of them sed " I gues i woun't be watching the world cup!"...

One of my favorite features is the abstraction of the file system. "Everything is under root"
Mounting to ISO's is too cool. :)

For me, after seeing pitiful 3d performance on this machine, it was installing Beryl (then compiz-quinnstorm) for s**ts and giggles and seeing it actually run. Smoothly. It still amazes me.
That, and the time a few weeks ago when I realised I use CLI to install/remove stuff more than synaptic. I feel like I'm actually getting somewhere in this brave new (to me) world of linux.
Oh oh oh oh...and realizing that I don't have a single piece of cracked software on this computer, but I still do all the same things I used to.

The configurbility of the gui is just awesome. Windows or OSX have nothing on it in that department.
