As far as i can see, the current DEs and WMs are about like this:

|Speed|WM=====>XFce====>GNOME====>KDE|Customizing|

So far, i am really happy with my Gnome experience, but am missing some of the customizing features that KDE has. Is there something inbetween Gnome's speed and simplicity and KDE's customizability?

I agree. The level of customizing settings in KDE is much higher and advanced. There are also a lot of bogus settings and in some cases the same settings can be modified elsewhere in KDE.

Actually it would be better if Gnome became more advanced in stead of seeing a new one between KDE and Gnome.

Your diagram is flawed, wm's like fvwm are extremely customizable (much more than GNOME, KDE).

yes, but not EASY to customize, unfortunately.

I'd say that's below Gnome on HIS scale. Yes, it's more configurable, but I think his scale is ease of configuration

since there doesn't appear to be anything  ...

in what ways could i "deck out" gnome to add some customizability (is that a word?)?

if possible... ](*,)

gdesklets ;) gtweakui

gdesklets is amazing fun but a little resource heavy
gtweakui lets you customize some things you'd have to do manually without.

Menu editor (in Ubuntu guide).

You can change the window manager (default is metacity. I did this last night, results are dramatic and too crazy for me).

You can add cool gdesklets:

http://gdesklets.gnomedesktop.org/

You can try new themes, or add new programs:

GnDE?
but seriously, i don't think anything comes near to the huge number of customisability options KDE has.

i installed GtweakUI a while ago... and it seems that it doesn't provide much over config editor... is it just a GUI for the same thing?

i'll try out Gdesklets... i have never heard of it :)

yeah, it's a gui for the config editor.
