I've noticed this too. Even on many computer game sites I see people starting topics about Linux and Ubuntu.

The other day I was reading a review of a laptop, the IBM/Lenevo Thinkpad X60. To show just how small the laptop is, there was a picture with a CD on top of the keyboard. Guess what that CD contained... take a look for yourself! (http://www.notebookreview.com/assets/16227.jpg)

And thinking about it; I don't think the Ubuntu logo is like it is as a coincidence. This image represents "humanity to others" through a "cirle of friends", and this is exactly what Ubuntu and the "circle of friends" logo represents. It's rather obvious what the logo designer was thinking, and as has been posted elsewhere, it's a very basic conclusion to come to when trying to design the logo.
