Greetings. I need to write a script which I can execute with an accelerator key in gEdit.

It's a fairly advanced project managment script, but would PERL be a good choice?

Really I'm looking for the best default choice, I don't wish to install any scripting languages, nor am I interested in learning BASH. PERL I have some experience in and I definetly don't wish to compile anything...

So, PERL sounds solid to me...

opinions???

python would be an option.

but if you don't want to install anything and have experience with perl - well the decision is already made

I did a lot of perl before I found python, you should give it a quick chance with a small script.

if you already know how to program - seems you do - you can start right here:

And I would use Ruby. As you see personal taste plays a role here. Perl, Python, and Ruby are all adequate for your job. It comes down with which language you are most comfortable. As engineer wrote, if you don't want to learn a new language anyway, just use Perl.
