So, I got my new lappy, and I want to bling it up a little. Went looking for desklets.

http://www.gdesklets.org/

There used to be much more than that available... Seems they re-did the site and I can't find much on it anymore.

The older stuff is still available via synaptic or automatix. Most of the stuff that is on the new site chokes with runtime errors or something. The new launch bar, Genesis, is kind of nice, but it spit an error every time it loads and does not remember the background shading for your launcher icons.

I tried genesis, but it wouldn't allow firefox to run full screen, and all it did was put icons on the desktop.

I can do that already...

There was one, a sort of all-in-one launcher/program switcher/workspace switcher thing which could replace both bars... I never could get it looking quite right though, thought I might have another go at it.

It's called Conky: http://conky.sourceforge.net/ ;)

Check my Conky: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=1515334&postcount=156

(Ok, Gdesklets can do more than Conky, I admit, but Conky is way better if you are looking for displaying system info)

Most of the desklets on the older site are now included in the gdesklets package.

Just open Gdesklets, and you'll see them all there

The older desklets were removed from the main site because quite a few of them are iffy and others certainly won't work at all with newer gDesklets releases. You can find them over on the unofficial gDesklets Desklet Archive (http://gdesklets.zencomputer.ca).

Nope, this was a launcher. Graphical.

Nice. I see you managed to get rid of the seti stuff. I couldn't, but then I didn't persevere too much.

Might just use yours...

I found the one I was looking for, Gnome bar

Thanks for all the replies. (Except you fuscia, you should know better... Is that really you in your avatar?)
