some good movies here. we've got a thread like this that has a lot of similar movies over here: http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1206769

i just watched requiem for a dream the other day .. and it's still very much with me. what a good flick! but i don't recommend it .. i've been very disturbed / depressed and i couldn't sleep at all after i watched it. it was just way too much at once.

my favorite has got to be pulp fiction, and the big lebowski is a close second.

Matrix
Antitrust

Those are the only two I put on my "must watch very often" list. There are a lot of great movies, but most of them have already been listed. Matrix has been listed a lot, but really the first one earns its place at the top of my list. And Antitrust... what the heck no one said Antitrust?? Come on people it was pretty good.

When I need a tarantino fix:
Kill Bill 1&2
Pulp Fiction
Reservoir Dogs
Natural Born Killers
True Romance

Otherwise:
The Boondock Saints
Fight Club
2010
Flatliners
Matrix / Animatrix
Blade Runner
Stargate
K-Pax
Home for the Holidays
Living Out Loud
Ghost in the Shell
Chocolat

TravisNewman
April 16th, 2005, 01:47 AM
Everything mentioned here that I've seen, I liked.

All the Tarrantino's. Everything he's ever had a part in I've loved-- and it's not because I will like it no matter what, some of them I didn't know who tarrantio was at the time.

I'd have to say that True Romance may be my favorite. Unless you could count Sin City as Tarrantino-- he did direct 1/4 of it.

All the Harry Potters, yes, epsecially three.
All the Matrices (plural for Matrix, for those who weren't math geeks at one time) though 3 was definitely not as good as the others

Fifth Element
Garden State (!!!)
Snatch
Shawshank
Tombstone
Million Dollar Baby
The Good The Bad and The Ugly
Zoolander
Anchorman -- Just because of Steve Carrell.
Oh geez... I'm stopping now. I could probably double the length of the thread.

I think this is a really good movie also. I normally stay way clear of chick flicks but I like this movie. I guess I admire the main character's ability to be her own person. I also love the part when the self righteous mayor eats himself silly.

Normally, I roll my eyes and make gagging motions at anything "chick flick" ... this one however, was based upon a book that I read while in college french, and I just freaking loved it...

Then the movie came out and was sooooo well done... right down to the music and actors chosen...

(p.s. you do know that the mother of Luc is Carrie-Anne Moss right...? Ha! I still remember her from my old Victoria's Secret catalogs...)

Chocolat is an awesome movie... and I usually like anything with Holly Hunter in it as well... Well... Crash was a cool concept but not so well done.

As far as Chick Flicks go... it's the same as any genre-- some suck, some are fabulous. Ever see Love Actually? That was a fantastic Chick Flick.

Yeah, Carrie-Anne was his mother but I never realized that she was in VS catalogs but she does seem to have the attributes of a VS model.

In no particular order (or chronology):

Fail-Safe (anybody else remember cold-war hydrogen-bomb paranoia???)
The Manchurian Candidate (original)
The Best Man (Henry Fonda dirty-politics film)

Jurassic Park (another John Williams winner)
Forbidden Planet
The Day the Earth Stood Still

Since I have no idea of how a movie score is created & brought to fruition, I'll take your word for it. From the POV of someone that appreciates how much a good score can enhance (or detract from) a film, I just go by the credits. And John Wiliams' name has been credited for a lot of good movie music...

I'm kinda scare of a Simpsons movie... Think about this...

Beavis and Butthead used to be huge, then they had a movie, and then they went away. =/

South Park used to be mega huge (and yes, it's still popular, and keeps getting funnier, but, it's not as big as it used to be), and then they had a movie.

I don't want anything bad to happen to the Simpsons!!

Expectations? I really don't have much myself. The biggest chuckle I get these days is when they have a cameo by the cat lady hurling felines at people. That's about it. I guess I see why it's 3+ years in the making for a toon now. Matt and crew have been sober for awhile I guess. A group of us will be there at least a day early, but I really don't need a movie as an excuse to camp out on someone's sidewalk with a keg. For all you down here in College Station, TX, look for the guy wearing a Vader helmet with beer tubes in the grill on May 18th. Come on down and spend the night at Cinemark theaters with us. We'll throw down some '42 bones, drink some Shiner, and discuss Simpsons '08.

starwars 3 will be cool cause its got darth vader in it. so 3 minutes might be cool. my expectations of the news starwars is low, so i wont get bummed.

the simpsons movie will kick ass and take names. reason? i really think matt, al, mike and mr. brooks can come up with something sweet-tacular. the new episodes(albiet not as good) i have enjoyed. i think they are "saving up" some cool ideas to make it a good movie.

i know cartoon movies in the past have killed a series or have not been very good. however, matt said that he would do a movie when the series was done. i think other cartoons did that too. it seems logical, when a series wanes in popularity or is on the way "out" they make a movie to revive interest. though in this case the simpsons is still popular and they are making a movie. i think it will rocket simpsons popularity back up.

Serenity!! I can't freakin' wait.

Me neither. :-) Though I think it will be very different from Firefly, and not as good.

But it will be Joss-fun and Riverliscious.

I don't know... River looks awesome, going crazy kung-fu in that bar brawl. But I think it'll be good, maybe not as good as Firefly, but incredibly awesome.

I'm sure it'll be great, but less character driven than Firefly and more of an action flick. And less western :-(
The character interaction and some of the western aspects are what made me love the show. Still, I'm looking forward to it immensely.

And Mirrormask of course.
