I listen to Death Cab for Cutie, the Postal Service (Same guy), Snow Patrol, and other popular "indie" artists. I recently discovered all the real "indie" artists that no one knows about, like Jonathan Coulton. Is there a community that shares my love of these artists who can help me find more?

Oh my, have you never heard of Last.FM (http://last.fm)? This is the best music community site on the web.

These are good sites, but for popular music. I'm thinking podsafe music, released under the CC licence. Artists who sell their music straight from their blog. Way cool stuff!

you'll find lots more at cdbaby.com. its the 2nd biggest online retailer of independent artists in the world. artists that sell their cd's there MUST belong to an independent label or be on one's own label. btw you won't find snow patrol or death cab for cutie there because they aren't classified as independent.
