It works on KDE too, much in the same way of running compiz --replace and gnome-window-decorator.

they work on both, but you need to hack them into kde.

xgl and aiglx are old news now, you don't need them with the new nvidia drviers. beryl is removing all the gnome dep. so that it will run in others, but kde4 should have the 3d built in so don't worry about it

but i like how beryl removes the need for xgl/aiglx/gnome. seems better if it can be easy to install on kde too. no doubt this will attract more kde users from other distros to kubuntu

not sure about that, beryl has nothing to do with ubuntu, and I find that every other distro has a easier way of enabling 3d desktop

so how do I install beryl? i followed this (http://forum.beryl-project.org/viewtopic.php?id=389) howto to install xgl/compiz on my ati PC. It worked flawlessly. I used the "second howto".

i just dont know how i undo my current xgl/compiz and start over with beryl.

im using kernel 2.6.15-27-k7
i have an ati radeon X1600PRO
and im not using edgy, im on dapper.

can i install beryl?

I've heard that my Beryl guide will work in xfce as well... with one or two adaptations.

If it doesn't work straight away... then make it! :)

i really only use gnome, so i think ill upgrade to edgy and try your guide and see how it goes.

Oh, and, how do I remove my current XGL/Compiz?
i'll repeat to clarify, i used this (http://forum.beryl-project.org/viewtopic.php?id=389) guide to get my xgl/compiz running

one more thing, does beryl/xgl/compiz/aiglx or anything of that sort work on self-compiled kernels? (like the kernels you compile yourself from this howto: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=217657)

or does it only work with kernels that are in ubuntu's repositories?

or, do kernels matter at all with these things?

This (http://forum.beryl-project.org/index.html) might have the answers you need...I've found lots of help for Beryl on there.

I got Beryl running on KDE quite happily (FINALLY figured out how to get it to start with KDE!!)...the only thing that I've found different is that a) You can't use the desktop pager to switch cube faces like GNOME and b)Kiba-Dock REALLY doesn't seem to get on with KDE for some reason.

Hope that helped some:D

Packages changes
we have now three compiz decorator :
- one for gnome compiz-freedesktop-gnome
- one for xfce compiz-freedesktop-xfce
- and one for kde compiz-freedesktop-kde
I'm guessing that means there's support for xfce and kde in official compiz.
