Ok, a good friend of mine who runs ThePCSpy has been Dugg like crazy for his experiments on what slows XP down:

I'm intending to run an experiment on what really slows Ubuntu down (shall be using the Dapper Drake release for this), so what I would like is for you guys to list your "can't live without" applications so that I can test how they affect performance.
This isn't a "Ubuntu is faster than XP" experiment, it's more a look into whether the same enormous drag factors apply to both operating systems.
Anyway, if you guys could help me out with building a list of useful apps to test, that would be brill.
