Hi. I just ordered 2x1 GB of PC3200 RAM, but I suddenly realized... will I be able to take that memory with me if when I upgrade my motherboard? Can modern motherboards handle PC3200 RAM?

Yes, most motherboards made today should be able to handle PC3200 DDR-RAM, but as always, when the time comes to upgrade, always check compatibility.

Oh, and what about newer memory? Is PC5300 backward-compatible with PC2700 or PC3200?

If the new motherboard can handle PC5300 as per its specifications, then OK. But if it does not support it, then no. Check the motherboard documentation, manufacturer's website and consult with the tech staff where you are buying the new mobo.

Most, if not all of th memory is backward compatible. I mean PC133 will run as PC100 and PC5300 should also be able to run as PC2100. Check the packages they usually have this marked on the package.
