View Full Version : Best background/wallpaper that matches the default (Human) theme?

After having the default orange/brownish swash of a wallpaper up for a bit, thought I'd search around, find something to change it. Was going to change the theme colors, but have come to like the orange/brown combo. Yes, I know there's many who don't, but this is directed towards those who do.

If you do like the default orange/brown (Human) theme, what's the best wallpaper you've found that matches well with it?

For me, I went back to DigitalBlasphemy.com. Hadn't been there for a couple years, but was there when he started out many years ago. Don't have a membership anymore, but found this image in the Free Gallery (http://digitalblasphemy.com/fshow.shtml?i=idyll&w=1152&h=864&y=2004&n=Idyll&b=count) and have found it to be a very nice color match. OK, not perfect in tones and hues, but very calming, and quite close.

What have you found?

I've found some images that fit very well with the default theme:

I've used these myself, and they look wonderful with the Human theme. (I'm a fan of fantasy art, so...)

black and white landscape photographs look good with it. you might try a google image search for people like ansel adams, edward weston or even lee friedlander.

i think they are far too 'detailed', so i don't think they're good choice :)

even though i have really grown tired of terragen stuff, i do agree with you that that image that you've linked to is really beautiful. i have downloaded it now. i personally think that wallpaper should be quite minimal or that contain very few colours for it to make the surroundings (ie the applications and the desktop) look nice. i used to like stunning and sometimes brightly coloured images with lots of detail such as those that Minyaliel has provided. but now i realise that they distract too much, and i don't think thats good. even though there is lots of detail in that image that you've linked to of the deer in the forest, its quite compatible because it only contains 2 colours - black and orange, so it it can blend in well with an orange theme.

you could try some of these:

It's a matter of personal taste, I guess;) I think most of the "simplistic" background images are bland and uninspiring, but that's just me.

i'm not saying they don't look nice, because they do :). i also love fantasy art, but i don't use them for wallpaper anymore because they tend to drown out and overwhelm the theme and the applications/desktop. maybe you will eventually come to think as i do.
in another thread, you mentioned that you love kde, so this would explain why you think those fantasy images are apt. in other words, you seem to like the 'detailed' look rather than the harmonious look.

I can't see what my preference for KDE has to do with this... I actually use KDE because it's easier to minimize the clutter on my desktop with it. I absolutely hate having one or more bars on top/ bottom of my screen, so I use Super Karamba tools to replace them, and that only works in KDE as far as I know. Also, since I've only got stuff in the corners of my desktop, that evens out the impression so that I can have more complex wallpapers :)

so I use Super Karamba tools to replace them, and that only works in KDE as far as I know.i'm not 100% clear on this. are you saying that you don't have any panels whatsoever? if you're referring to replacing them with application launchers, then, no, superkaramba isn't the only one. gdesklets has them as well.

Here's what have right now: Golden Flower (http://interfacelift.com/wallpaper/details.php?id=877). I attached a screenshot of it on my Openbox/XFCE/Rox desktop.

No panels whatsoever, that's correct :) Let me show you:

It's made to look like a KDE version of the desktop environment Mezzo, which I've become a great fan of. However, Mezzo is so full of bugs yet that I rather make my Kubuntu look like this. In the top left corner you have the menu, top right is "show desktop", bottom right is system tray and bottom left is the task manager. In the middle of the screen sits an app that helps you access your programs, folders, favourite web sites etc. But we're going off- topic...
