He,
I'm just here to congratulate Canonical for what they are doing. Look at this:

Yeah, seen that too. its cool , but i dont really trust google trends yet, it showed some strange results (like this: http://www.google.com/trends?q=windows%2C+linux&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all, why is it descending?), it doesnt go till september and they say its just based on a small portion of their searches.

seems to be in line with my (admittedly skewed) data from my blog counter:
http://s26.sitemeter.com/rpc/v6/server.asp?a=GetChart&n=9&p1=s26ouijblog&p2=%5B%5DQZMTI%5E&p3=19&p4=0&p5=63%2E88%2E112%2E229&p6=HTML&p7=1&p8=%2E%3Fa%3Dstatistics&p9=&rnd=24482

Small sample, skewed heavily towards other Linux users, probably, but interesting.

I believe this is a better indicator, still shows ubuntu quickly on the rise but it's still got a lot to go:

Also interesting is if you look at this page (http://www.google.com/trends?q=ubuntu%2Csuse%2Cfedora&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all) which compares Ubuntu, Suse, and Fedora, and you take a look at the "Languages" tab. You'll see how linux in general is heavily skewed towards the non-English speaking world. Another interesting piece of information is the heavy use of Suse in Germany.

These are just searches of OS's through google...they don't mean much. in fact, it could reflect people that are mostly googling to fix problems they have with their OS. my point being that it could mean various things. it's pretty inconvlusive.

I agree, these are just what people have typed in to Google search. I tried with various combinations with windows and linux + problem, download, virus, forum, software etc and they all give pretty much the same results.

Through the thread title, I thought you meant this:

This is nothing more than an uneducated guess, but maybe searchers are using specific distro names for searching instead of the generic 'linux'.
