Hello,
I have acquired the PDA that I've wanted for some time now. One problem is that it doesn't come with the flip-cover. As this PDA is exactly what I want, I don't think it's an option for me to go buy any other PDA on the market.
I've been loooking at the PDA and am stumped as how to create a cover for this.

The thing I'm looking for in a cover is one that protects the PDA from coins or pens or keys when the PDA is in my pocket. If possible, I'd like the PDA to be easy to uncover. But if it takes more than a few seconds to uncover the PDA, I don't mind. Protection of the screen is a higher priority than convenience.

The PDA is a Sony Clie PEG-N610C (a.k.a PEG-N610)

To the Do-It-Yourselfers in the Ubuntu Community, please share your ideas!

Hey... is that one with an OLED display?

NoTig,
Not sure. I don' think so. It's just a regular color screen that has a backlight.
OLED is a new (year 2005) technology, isn't it?
This PDA was made in the year 2000 or 2001.

I seem to remember someone doing this for minidisc players over at http://www.minidisc.org. Have a look in their forum.

The consumer electronics and entertainment conglomerate announced on Tuesday in Japan that starting this month, it will produce OLED panels and use them in a new Sony Clie handheld device, the PEG-VZ90

I want to see what OLED looks like up close.

Keith,
thanks for the suggestion. I went to forums.minidisc.org and did a search (http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?act=Search&f=)
for the word "cover". I went through all 13 pages of search results, but none was what we're looking for.

Do you have some clues? Approximately when did you see the post? In what forum? Do you remember any particular words that were used? All this info will make searching for it easier.

Thanks.

Looks like my memory is faulty - they only seem to be talking about stick-on plastic pda covers. See here (http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=11455&hl=).
Sorry for raising your hopes.

ok, ive got this very same pda. no cover either. what i did (actually, my girlfriend did), is: find a rough piece of plastic (cd case wont do, dvds will), and cut it with the shape of pda. grab a sewing machine. and a piece of cloth (i used an old jean). you can think of the rest.
i had to disassemble the palm in order to tie the cover to the back (there are two holes meant for this). when i get the chance, i'll snap a pic of the finished work for you.

Eldragon,
thanks for your post. I'm looking forward to your pic of your work.
Coz I'd like to see how you were able to keep the PDA, not only the screen, but the plastic shell itself, from getting scratched.

Go to your local fly fishing emporium.
Take a look a the boxes used to store flies.
They come in a range from low cost plastic through metal and even in hand carved burr walnut.

They fit in any good sized pocket.
Some are fitted with clips, some are lined with foam all of which can be removed.

Titus:
that's an idea.
do you think a box would be small enough to fit into a pocket?

Will the plastic casing of the PDA and the screen itself get scratched while inside?

The boxes fit into to my pockets okay, a normal jacket.

You can fit out the inside with foam to hold everything in place (try camera shops for the foam).

Should cause no scratches.
