Does anyone think ATi is (or was since buyout by amd) conspiring with microsoft ? Since the ati drivers "Mysteriously" perform so poorly on linux as compared to windows. It cant be that hard to have ported the drivers, or written them for linux. Nvidia gforce cards seem to get the same performance in linux as in windows (users clarifying this would be appreciated) .

ATI drivers are horrible on Windows as well. nVidia drivers suck on Linux btw. In short they both suck but in different ways. nVidia gives decent options (although not nearly as many as the Windows version) but does not support screen rotation or GPU throttling. ATI supports GPU throttling (which is nice considering that alot of laptops run ATI cards) but lack alot of performance stuff that nVidia has. Basically they are mostly aimed at different things. ATI is more on the mobil side of things where battery saving matters more than performance (if you are a heavy gamer you are on Windows anyways) and nVidia is more for desktops where performance is important but rotating screen and savig power are secondary at best.
