I'm planning on buying a new CPU and motherboard for my computer. This is what I was thinking about:
- AMD ATHLON 64 X2 4800+ processor
- ASUS A8N5X motherboard

Does anyone have any good or bad things to say about it? My old AMD Athlon XP 2800 is way too slow these days.

- AMD ATHLON 64 X2 4800+ processor <---This is good to go
Sidenote: you could save some money and use the X2 3800+.

- ASUS A8N5X motherboard <---From the infomation available it should work out of the gate.

I take it your will be reusing other parts as you have not listed a video card mem hdd

I could buy a slower processor, but someone I know just got an AMD ATHLON 64 X2 4600+ and I wanted to get something just as fast or faster. :P We'll see, depending on how much it costs. I just read that this motherboard comes with Linux drivers! Cool. I'll be reusing my old video card (GeForce FX 5200), hdd (200 GB ATA), but I'll buy new memory chips to match the new hardware. Thanks for your reply!

Mirrorball. May I ask what stuff you do with your computer? I'm just wondering on this.

Don't get the 4600+. It has half the cache of the 4400+ & 4800+

Dunno why this is the case.
