Interesting article (may require watching a brief ad for a "site pass"). The author makes a case that the "obsolete", low-level attributes of BASIC is worthwhile to study, but difficult for kids to access.

I'm not sure I agree or not since I know squat about Basic. In fact, I remember being discouraged by BASIC.

Anyway I thought you all may have an opinion or at least be interested. If nothing else, it's a well written read.

The funny part is his final solution of ordering a commodore 64 from eBay. Surely there's some reason he didn't just use an emulator(?).

"It is practically impossible to teach good programming to students that have had a prior exposure to BASIC: as potential programmers they are mentally mutilated beyond hope of regeneration." -- Edsger Dijkstra ("How do we tell truths that might hurt?")

I say dump BASIC and start printing Python programs in computer magazines. :)
