Well it's the 1st of September here in the UK.

Here are the 'rules':

Posts made to a screenshot area need to follow forum rules at all times.
No explicit or suggestive images (they must be safe for your kids and/or boss to see).
No political or religious attacks.
No racist or other attacks against a group of people.
Please post links to screenshots with thumbnails. Actual screenshots with take up excessive bandwidth.

Quite a bit changed yesterday. Less flashy colours shouldn't get my custom theme confused as an osx clone. Also just got my first digital camera, sorry for all the car pics ;)

Also, FLCL is kickass.

Nothing very exciting, in fact pretty standard colors for a Ubuntu system, but this colorscheme/theme is something I'll put somewhere at some point, when I get done with it. I'm intending it for people like me, who're using a gimpy old box as their main axe, yet don't want to go full-on with a spartan windowmanager or even the XFCE route (though XFCE is excellent.)

Colorschemes inspired by Human, leaning more toward the earthen tones than orange. I'm using Openbox instead of Metacity, and I'm using Thunar instead of Nautilus for local filesystem browsing. The Openbox theme is modified from the standard mist theme, and the gtk theme is modified from the SouthSide scheme to be more Human, with ThinIce scrollbars. Icon theme is the near-ubiquitous NuoveXT theme.

Since it's a mix of Mist and Human, I'm thinking of calling it Humid. ;)

Start button is Ubuntu System Panel (USP), there is an option to edit the name of the button in gconf.

The compiz theme is my own (Cross-Eyed-Fish)
GTK2 theme is Linsta-GTK2
Icon theme is OSX

All theme links here: http://www.compiz.net/viewtopic.php?pid=30224#p30224

You can make the panels black using various GTK 2.x themes iirc, such as Linsta or Elegance which can be found on http://www.gnome-look.org

LiNsta can be found here (http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=42697)

Elegance can be found here (http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=44495)

I still dont get how to make the start button like that.

ok...

Install USP
Then, gconf-editor -> apps -> usp -> applet_text

Change the applet_text to Start or whatever you want.

Job done!

The icon is standard so no need to change anything there.
My button is black because of my GTK2 theme (linsta-GTK2)

Does that help?

I haven't posted a desktop shot in a while. Here's my Edgy machine.

This is a 1Ghz machine with 256Mb PC100 and a 64Mb GeForce4 440 in it (only $15 ... old half-height cards are dirt cheap on ebay these days).

http://img352.imageshack.us/img352/1967/screenshot1gr9.th.jpg (http://img352.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screenshot1gr9.jpg) http://img352.imageshack.us/img352/5739/screenshot2qb2.th.jpg (http://img352.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screenshot2qb2.jpg)

Not bad for a machine that cost less than $20 to start with (http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=237148).

you live in phoenix? thats cool, i live in tucson, not too far away.Sorry about the slow response, I've been traveling for a few days.

I grew up between Phoenix and Tucson, my family was in Phoenix, my grandparents in Tucson all through my elementary and high school years. Then I went to the U of A in Tucson. I currently live in Fez, Morocco.

Sorry for my offtopic answer...back to desktop screenshots... :)

FACKIN' like a master. I haven't posted in this thread for a long while, and now I'm back with my Windows2000-themed GNOME desktop. As you see, I have Textaloud mp3 running in Wine and some other stuff open. It is set as such that all these applications use the same colour scheme, and look nice with each other.
It might not be as cool as, say, one of Fuscia's screenshots... but I like it.

Noir for Compiz (http://gnomethemes.org/?p=72) is a port of a Metacity (http://gnomethemes.org/?p=71) theme I did some time ago.
Gtk: 7 colors
Compiz/Metacity: 7 colors/9 versions

looks very bad on the white forum background so load up on your desktop with a dark scheme or see desk1 and desk2 screenies
http://gnomethemes.org/pre/noir-compiz.png
http://gnomethemes.org/pre/noir-purple-compiz.png
desk1 (http://gnomethemes.org/pre/Noir-Blue-Compiz.jpg)
desk2 (http://gnomethemes.org/pre/Noir-Compiz.jpg)

download (http://gnomethemes.org/?p=72) Noir for Compiz
download (http://gnomethemes.org/?p=71) Gtk (required update!!)/Metacity

I know the menu/shade button is a little weird on the round button versions. Consider this....not finished. I decided to finally make that 'impossible' black pixmap theme, since I hit a creative wall on another pixmap theme, but they have really just begun. This is not a port of Noir VS/WB. After I finish the gtk, I may refine the compiz. Metacity will remain as_is.

I have the album covers saved within the corresponding folder. All I have to do is right click on the folder, go to properties & change the icon for the album cover. It makes things easier to find, especially as I've stored some under artist & others under album #-o

OK, this one isn't much different than the last post I made this month, but different enough IMHO to warrant another post. Plus I've uploaded it to gnome-look.org. It doesn't have any Compiz goodness and no Web2.0-ish gradients all over everything so I expect it to be torn mercilessly to shreds. ;)

For those of us on the low-low-end, I present Humid, a GTK 2.x theme and Openbox theme. Lighter GNOME for people who don't really like XFCE.

It includes:

A GTK 2.x theme based on Mist, Redmond95, and Thinice
An Openbox theme based on the Mist Openbox theme

That depends on the amount of colours in the image. If the image has a low amount of colours, changing to JPEG will probably increase the file size (not to mention, create visual artifacts).

I worked on getting transparency to work on my computer around the realease of Ubuntu 6.06 to no avail...but like an hour ago I accidentally stumbled upon a much easier HowTo that was completely unrelated to what I was trying before (compiz/xgl). The result? I can see through any window I want now!

Now THAT is a cool orange theme. I don't suppose you could post a few instructions on how you did it. I managed to get the black window border but that's it. The Noir-Compiz part wouldn't install. Thanks in advance for any tips you can offer.

http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/211/screenshotxp9.th.jpg (http://img208.imageshack.us/my.php?image=screenshotxp9.jpg)

I found the wallpaper on a brazilian Linux site. The theme is "tropic" from boxwhore.org. I edited it for larger fonts in window bars and the menu.

I pieced together the Murrine configurator from Gnome-Look.org and mutated the NeoGraphic theme for a flatter look.

XFE is the file manager. Fast and easy to use. Rotten icons, though. Still working on that.

The transparent terminal window is courtesy of the XFCE terminal, which has the option to remove all the window handles and scrollbar. It's running htop (which is far superior to top, if you ask me).

And conky's in the background. :) Screenshot courtesy of the Gimp.

Sounds like you used the theme manager to install the color schemes. You need to put each theme dir
Noir
Noir-Blue
Noir-Green
Noir-Orange
...etc...
in either .themes in your home dir or in /usr/share/themes

don't even bother with the Compiz package if you do not use Compiz.

A fairly minimal KDE desktop for me. All of my commonly-used apps are mapped to keyboard shortcuts (like Firefox and Irssi), in the system menu (Gwenview and Krita), or just perpetually active (Amarok). I've got apps tied to desktops (Desktop 1 is Internet / General, Desktop 2 is Terminal Applications, Desktop 3 is Image Editing, and Desktop 4 is Miscellaneous). The music playing is Song For Whoever from Carry On Up The Charts, The Best Of The Beautiful South (recently ripped from CD, and my current musical obsession). These are also some of my favourite desktop backgrounds for a long time.
