I understand, like-for-like, a flatpack app is larger than the snap app. However, snap defaults to having two versions of an app installed. I have not so far been able to find out if this doubling applies to flatpack. If flatpack installs/maintains only a single version, and given that a flatpack app is bigger than it snap equivalent, can one say that for 15 installs apps the flatpack environment will be smaller than a snap environment? (Given the size of storage not really sure if this saving in disc space is that important). Looking after a number of remote machines I like the idea that these apps are automatically updated.

I have an 11inch chromebook with a 16GB SSD. Space efficiency matters greatly. So does RAM use, since it has 2GB of RAM. It was a very usable system before 20.04 when so much bloat was added to our beloved distro. It is perfect as a remote desktop or travel computer to connect back to the home office using.

Sure, I could replace the 2242 SATA SSD, but I shouldn't have to.

Thanks. Would a suit of flatpacks apps take up less space than the same suit of snap apps?

Answer = yes. Flatpack takes up less space than snap.

A really great feature of flatpak is it provides an unified gui to control file access to all flatpak apps. Install Flatseal if you use a few flatpak apps.

One thing that turns me off about snap is that it has to mount a bunch of volumes, that looks messy to me. Flatpak doesn't do that and therefore a lot cleaner IMO.
