Hello, everyone, hope you're fine.

A few days ago I assembled my first computer and it seems everything went well. I'm about to install the OS and I have an Android cell phone. In the Google app store there is a tool called EtchDroid that is used to create bootable flashdrives for almost any Linux-Ubuntu distribution.
The truth is I'm very suspicious of almost everything and I'd like to ask you if you know anything about this app, is it reliable?

At home there is another computer, it's not mine but I can use it; the problem is the Office apps were installed in a not very legal way, I think, and I'm worried it may have malware and end up infecting my new computer if I use any ISO file downloaded from it.

Anyway, don't know if this is the best place in the forum for these doubts; excuse me if I've caused inconveniences and thanks in advance for your answers.

If you was asking me I would say this post should go in the Ubuntu, Linux & OS chat section of the forum because you are asking for opinions. Therefore it should not be in a asking for help section of the forum.

I will say this about EtchDroid. It is Open source. It is hosted on GitHub. It is still being actively developed and that is always a good sign. The app's page on Google store has a long list of positive reviews. There were some negative reviews but it often turned out that the reviewer failed to understand the limitations of EtchDroid or did not read the instructions correctly. The developer also gives replies to some of the reviews.

Any illegal software won't affect transferring an ISO to a USB stick or SDCard, Go for it. You can check the disk for defects and it will check that all the files are as they should be

This is a link to my experience with EtchDroid: https://askubuntu.com/a/1274545/43926 It seems like a great app to me. There is also an app that turns your phone into a Live USB named DriveDroid that I can recommend: https://askubuntu.com/questions/925400/how-to-install-ubuntu-using-a-smart-phone-as-the-installation-media

Are you sure about this? On other forums I've been told not to use that computer, although, from what I've researched, it seems the chance of an ISO file becoming infected is almost nil in any scenario.
