Hello all,

I have a surface pro copy that used to have windows 10 on it. The ssd has been wiped many times while trying to install various linux os`s including many(feels like thousands lol) attempts at ubuntu. I will explain what happens and then ask what further information is required to help with this problem...

I go through the motions of installation and all is fine...reboots and is working correctly. Several reboots later i think (cant see it very clearly) i get a black screen...and nothing happens. So i reinstall.... I have activated/deactivated secure mode and turned on/off legacy bios settings all to no avail...i just end up re installing and trying other settings...that dont work either.

What information do you guys need from me to help me out: Its a tablet pc with a Chipset – Intel Core m3-6Y30 (4M Cache, up to 2.20 GHz) Processor. Ask away and if required i will get as much information as possible.

Many thanks,

This is dated, but seems to be well documented.

I run Ubuntu 20.04 on a Dell tablet and I know it can be difficult finding help for tablet related problems. Anyhow I hope you find a solution, good luck.

Yes you can load a desktop on Ubuntu Core 20 (you mention "Ubuntu 20" where there is no such release, but Ubuntu has used the yy format for snap only releases since 2016) but specialist releases were designed for headless use, so even with loading the snap package of GNOME, you'll get a better experience with a desktop intended release such as Ubuntu 20.04 LTS Desktop, if desktop use is your intended purpose.
