Hi,

I started getting this error yesterday for my pxe auto installs of 20.04:

[!!] Detect disks

Loading libc6-udeb failed for unknown reasons. Aborting.

An installation step failed. You can try to run the failing item again from the menu, or
skip it and choose something else. The failing step is: Detect disks

I was using this for my net installs:

https://mirrors.mit.edu/ubuntu/dists/focal/main/installer-amd64/current/legacy-images/netboot/ubuntu-installer/amd64/initrd.gz
https://mirrors.mit.edu/ubuntu/dists/focal/main/installer-amd64/current/legacy-images/netboot/ubuntu-installer/amd64/linux
But then I upgraded to this one:https://mirrors.mit.edu/ubuntu/dists/focal-updates/main/installer-amd64/current/legacy-images/netboot/ubuntu-installer/amd64/initrd.gz
https://mirrors.mit.edu/ubuntu/dists/focal-updates/main/installer-amd64/current/legacy-images/netboot/ubuntu-installer/amd64/linux

Same problem, both for my preseed and manual install.

thoughts?

The same thing. It did work yesterday but today we get the same error with mini.iso 20.04 (18.04 still works).

I found this posting from 2019 with the same error:

Ubuntu 16.04 - Loading libc6-udeb failed for unknown reasons. Aborting. (mckelvaney.co.uk) (https://www.mckelvaney.co.uk/blog/2019/04/17/ubuntu-16.04-loading-libc-udeb-failed-for-unknown-reasons-aborting/)

I know docker and containers are the future, but I'd still like to be able to perform a simple bare bones install over the network (pxe + netboot) for my desktops and vms for the next few years.

I've tried the new live server install and it's not barebones, amongst other issues I have.

What's it going take to get maintenance on the netboot image? Or should I just switch to debian?

Looks like it's working again.
