View Full Version : [ubuntu] Change in Screen Lock Behavior in Ubuntu 20.04 LTS

I recently upgraded from Ubuntu 18.04 LTS to 20.04 LTS. I notice that the behavior of the machine under Screen Lock has changed.

I use Pidgin Instant Messenger as my IRC client. Under 18.04 (and earlier LTS) versions, when leaving my desk I would lock the screen. While the screen was locked, new messages would be posted to my IRC client, which for me was desirable behavior.

Under 20.04, it appears that once I Lock the screen, my open accounts in Pidgin get cut. I get this message: "The account has disconnected and you are no longer in this chat. You will automatically rejoin the chat when the account reconnects." So no new posts to my IRC channels are recorded.

Additional data (Dec 05 2020): This problem is not limited to Pidgin. About 15 minutes after Screen Lock, any Internet connection is severed. For example, something as simple as ping is severed.

Is this expected behavior in 20.04?

Is there anyway I can restore the previous interaction between Lock and my IRC client?

Thank you very much.
