Does this mean that Nvidia will start fabricating 10,000+ Core ARM based CPU's?

The Linux world is about to fly wide open!

Any thoughts on this?

Skynet?

Right? AI is at the pinnacle of their research.

Let's go Matrix instead. At least we'd be involved. ;-)

We're already in The Matrix. Some pimply-faced youth from a far, far more advanced society than us is running our Universe in simulation on a 1024 bit machine in his mother's basement while he watches inane late-night programming and munches on chips.

Big Bang? Inflation? No. He just started the simulation and then ran it fast forward for a while until it got to the interesting stuff.

His computer science teacher is going to take a few points off on his grade for the rolling errors caused by his sloppy code that introduced what we think is dark matter and dark energy.

Teacher: What's with all of the strife in your modern society?
Student: I don't know... they seemed to have invented this "politics" thing all on their own.
Teacher: Well fix it.
Student: I had this virus idea...

as i understand it could stil be blocked. I am not sure it is a good idea to sell it to nvidia. it should remain "neutral".

on the other hand there are other more opensource alternatives that might get more funding now.

I hate the idea of ARM being owned by Nvidia.

What I keep wondering is if Nvidia is going to come out with a Ampere style 10,000+ core CPU.

I'm hoping this will cause Apple all kinds of problems with them moving to ARM.

Ever heard of a DPU? Neither had I. It is a Data Processing Unit and Nvidia makes one called Bluefield. This is part of the Nvidia publicity statement.

By combining the industry-leading ConnectX® network adapter with an array of Arm cores, BlueField offers purpose-built hardware acceleration engines with full data center infrastructure on chip programmability

Now, that is a reason for buying ARM Limited.

And Canonical is getting in on the act.

This press release is dated 13 September 2020

NVIDIA and SoftBank Group Corp. (SBG) today announced a definitive agreement under which NVIDIA will acquire Arm Limited from SBG and the SoftBank Vision Fund (together, “SoftBank”) in a transaction valued at $40 billion. The transaction is expected to be immediately accretive to NVIDIA’s non-GAAP gross margin and non-GAAP earnings per share.

The proposed transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, including the receipt of regulatory approvals for the U.K., China, the European Union and the United States. Completion of the transaction is expected to take place in approximately 18 months.

The people at the top will get even richer by this deal. They always do. Greed at the top is a powerful motive for mergers and acquisitions.

The problem is that the companies that will buy licenses from Nvidia (http://nvidia.geforce-drivers.ideaprog.download/) are her direct competitors. And in order not to become addicted, they will be forced to look for alternatives.
These are Apple, Intel, Huawei, Samsung and Qualcomm.

As a RPI4 user, I think this is a good move.

Wow... I mean, I hope they can take it with them... ;-)
