View Full Version : [SOLVED] Dash to Panel

Hello all!
I recently made the decision to stop using Windows and switch to Linux. I've installed Ubuntu 20.04. I have actually used Ubuntu 16.04 in the past (but very briefly). It's great to be back. :P
Anyway, I wanted to move the dock from the left to the bottom of the screen. I chose to install the dash to panel extension (through gnome tweaks). However, it led to problems with the 'Show Applications' section. The app list stopped showing up and the mouse stopped working in certain circumstances. For example, when I tried to disable dash to panel, I couldn't click the Extensions tab in gnome tweaks.
Luckily, I was able to disable dash to panel by opening gnome tweaks through the terminal. Things have gone back to normal. Here are my actual questions:
1. How do I completely remove dash to panel from Ubuntu now? I don't want any more issues.
2. What's the best option to move the taskbar to the bottom (and if possible merge the top and left taskbars and place them at the bottom like dash to panel allowed)?
That's it for now. I'll post more questions as I come across more issues. Also, I'm a complete beginner in terms of commands etc (I google every command) so please take that into consideration.
Thanks in advance! Looking forward to learning Linux.

1 - Open the Extensions utility. The arrowhead icon to the right of each manually installed extension opens a dialog with a 'remove' button.
2 - 'Best' is always a matter of opinion, but Use Dash to Dock extension and use the configuration dialog to position it on the bottom.

Hey quick update. The arrow on the right did not provide me with a remove option unfortunately. It simply drops down to reveal a description of the extension, its version and a link to the website.

The attached image ↓ shows what I see for each of my manually installed extensions (the upper section). If your "Remove" button is missing, the alternate way is to visit the gnome-shell extensions website (https://extensions.gnome.org/), click the "installed extensions" tab, and remove it from there. If it still won't remove for some reason, you probably will just have to disable it and leave it at that. It shouldn't interfere with dash to dock if disabled.

Thanks Dennis. I went to the website. My installed applications did not show up. I suppose it requires a login. For now though I figured out how to move the dock simply through the dock settings. Made me realize I didn't even need the extension really. -.- Oh well. I'll try the website again and see if there's a way to remove it. Appreciate it.

Yes, please ask the moderators to move the Tor Browser question to a new thread.
Any Tor Browser user will see the thread title Dash to Panel and will look no further.
If possible, one question per thread is good practice.

I wanted to refrain from starting too many threads, but you're absolutely correct. I'll put the Tor question in a separate thread, Thank you.

Ah, I see. That's interesting to know. I guess I jumped the gun on gnome tweaks. I was able to move the dock from the left of the screen to the bottom and resize the icons through the settings. However, I haven't yet figured out how to merge the top bar (the battery and volume bar) to the bottom dock; or just have it auto remove when a window is open.

Thanks for the link ipv. However, I must admit, I'm a bit vary of dash to panel after it messed up my applications list. >.< Downloading directly from Software Center won't cause the same issues? I installed it through the terminal before.

personally i prefer to keep things as 'buntu has them, i stick with the built-in settings to make alterations.

Getting the latest dash to panel from gnome extensions fixed things and merged the top and bottom bar without issues.
Finally solved. Thanks all.
