I think here are many users who wants to know how to compile kernel, i know here are about 100 guides about compiling kernel, but i couldn't get them work though i read them very carefully, but no, i couldn't get my nvidia drivers working. So if someone wants to create threat about how to compile the newest stable kernel from www.kernel.org and also how to get nvidia and ati and other drivers to work. I mean STEP-TO-STEP style.

There are at least 3 good step-by-step guides on HOWTO forums, just search. Most of these guides prepare and build kernel tree as root for some reason which you can avoid using fakeroot instead.

For nvidia kernel module, I suggest using module-assistant. Try the guides first then say where you got stuck and I bet people will help you out.

There are step-by-step guides which can be easy found by searching for
kernel compile howto in these forums :)

And even if there's no guide JUST for kernel.org's kernel, I guess every compiling guide includs extra steps for a "vanilla" kernel - this is what you want.
