cannot navigate to / (root) directory from nautilus

Hi, I'm running Ubuntu 18.04 and it appears that I can no longer navigate with Nautilus to /, the root directory.
OS: Ubuntu 18.04 64 bit
Kernel 4.15.0-96-generic
Desktop: Gnome 3
for some reason I can't figure out how to navigate with Nautilus to the / directory on my server. The left bar icon which I normally used to navigate with opens my home directory but I cannot navigate to / from there. It seems I used to be able to do that.
Any ideas?

You have to open 'Other Locations' > Computer in the Nautilus sidebar (it's at the bottom). That gets you to /
