View Full Version : No more pornographic login screens!

Look at the main ubuntu page; it apears as if we have a ubuntu login screen with:
1. People who actually look normal
2. People who are wearing clothes.

I hope either this or something else is on the cover of the new Hoary CD, because one of the biggest turnoffs to me giving someone an ubuntu CD is the fact that there's a half-naked guy, and that the photographer is preverted.

I'm really glad they're changing this; it needs to look friendly, which I think this one does :)

Luke

PS. Where can I get this?

Hold on a minute, I won't say its pornographic. It's not really distasteful the way it was, I kinda like it. Though I must admit the lady wearing the red shirt is hot!

I would not say the GDM Theme was pornographic, but I respect the opinions of anyone who feels this way, wether its for religious believes or just doesn't like it. Luckily, we have an option to change it at will. Imagine something like that on another OS where you have to basically risk your system's stability for this.

Calm down guys! I was completely joking about it being pornographic. It definitely isn't. But it make some people laugh.

And I'm sorry, but you wouldn't think she was hot if she wore a sweatshirt. End of story

Who are those models anyways?

Some people did find it offensive.
I dont think the point was to be hot or not ..

james_mad

I do not use the login screen so I do not care much. And that girl would still be hot in a sweatshirt

I just hope they do not discontinue the calendar pics, and I mean of the same style that they are currently using.

Maybe I can make you a GDM Theme with Senator Palpatine aka Bill Gates, George W. Bush, Michael Moore, C. Rice and hey, why not, Jon Stewart. Cool enough? All of them in a group hug.. I'd never change that GDM.

This isn't the default GDM login theme. This is Human Circle. Human is the default GDM login theme.

We get controversy even with this! I'm thinking, next time, have a blank, white GDM that says: "You people complain too much, make your own wanmit!".

I wonder if they will remove the anarchism package due to political pressure...

well, it's not so bad this new one. But hte other was realy ahead on it's time. Our society isn't ready for naked happy people yet, and I think in order to reach more people there should be a balance.

so let's see how ubuntu grows. by the way is there a away to know how many ubuntu users there are? Have to search for that.

First off, I would have thought she was hot if she was wearing a sweatshirt. ;)

Second, I don't like this new screen that much, but I don't see how a guy with his shirt off offended so many people. Guys walk around with their shirts off all the time. However, the calendar artwork-- sure. That could offend.

I'm wondering if there are going to be any more calendar wallpapers from the original photo shoot, because they weren't pornographic, or even erotic. They were ARTISTIC. Offensive, maybe, but not pornographic.

At one time, when I was still a happy victim of my pure anarchistic innocence, I actually believed that Linux was a sort of refuge from the cold world of blue-nosed twits whose delicate and sensitive version of morality is offended even by birdies doing their springtime thing on branches of trees. I was wrong evidently. Maybe someone should start a fork of debian just for them and call it "Virgin Holy/Linux."

search synaptic for "calendar"
There should be an ubuntu-calendar package, and ubuntu-calendar-<month> packages for each month since warty's release. It's a monthly wallpaper provided by Ubuntu but not included by default, because the images are of the people in the gdm screen in... risque poses. And not wearing clothes. Except the guy, who appears to be wearing boxers.

I like the new shot better. The reason is that the average joe visiting the web site will say "Oh I see, a happy community" instead of "hey, what's with the people in bathing suits?"
On the other hand it doesn't represent the Ubuntu logo anymore. I really wish they would have done 2 groups of 3 (or just one group of 3 fully dressed).

In my opinion, the new photo does not look artistic enough...Like UbuWu said it looks like a regular family shot - a very multicultural family I must add- but a regular photo indeed. The previous one looked very ARTISTIC, the wall-papers also do. So if people got offended by naked ladies, or you got some heat from your boss because of having a bit of skin on your wall-paper...I can understand. The developers should have just had a set of pictures of the same three humans, with clothes on (well, just slap a shirt on the skinny guy). Then you have a choice. I personally think the old style was very cool, very harmless and very well designed.

If someone is offended by that original, I suggest they use Windows, subscribe to MSN, and get lost in the baby-picture swapping forums. We are not living in the 16th century, and I do not believe we should accomodate superstition, up-tight red-necks, puritan mentalities, and political or religious correctness. I have no empathy for those whose delicate, misguided, and archaic sensibilities are so easily "offended"... So they're "offended"... So frigging what! They can just shop elsewhere and stop trying to impose their very up-tight world view upon free and thinking people... And if anyone is offended by this post, I don't apologize and never will. Besides, it's a lot of fun getting such types so mad they bust a vein or two in what's left of their brains.

this is an open source community, where freedom to choose is (one of) the most important things.
If you dont like it, change it. You have the freedom to do it. Dont say "it porn/sucks/etc", dumping the work of others. :( Please?

I don't consider either the login screen or the calander backgrounds to be offensive in any way. Nudity was created by God anyway! Adam and Eve were butt naked and not ashamed. It was only after the influence of Lucifer that they suddenly became aware that they didn't have any clothes on.

Any Christians (or assorted other fuddy duddy puritans) who are offended by nudity that is presented in good taste, remember, God created nudity, the devil made it seem like a bad thing.

I know what I am talking about too, I am an ordained Christian missionary! :)

I call for more pornographic logon screens, and more vulgar ones - give the people something to complain about.

I demand full girl on girl action logon screens, moving pictures and sound!

</joke>

Honestly I liked the human logon screen, but what Breezy carries right now isn't bad either - it's a logon screen I watch it for less than 30 secs, it takes more than that to get my blood boiling.

I'm guessing these:

http://www.monkeyc.net/ubuntu/tn-nu-ubuntu2.jpg

Which were shipped with Warty's prerelease... as you can see, it's full frontal nudity - clearly unnatural and should be kept from the eyes of geeks and other small children.

Oh great, this thread again. This is the craziest thread I've started here. Just to try to clear it all up, I thought I heard it was a big deal with the people on the cover (but they were obviously refering to the ubuntu calendar.) And when I tried to hand some ubuntu CDs out at my church, some people thought it was really strange. That kinda drew me to start this thread (mostly to be funny :P) when I saw the new login thing. So, sorry for all that!

Sorry if anyone is following this, but this thread never needed to be brought back up after being long dead. It's just going to cause more controversy, and the calendar images don't seem to be involving nudity anymore, and the GDM has changed, so... closed.

Sorry for any inconvenience.
