How to install MAME?

I found it in the repos and I installed it. Other than that I can't find where it is, nor where to put the ROMs.
I would really appreciate some help.

Simply, you move files to

/usr/local/share/games/mame/roms

And to start the program, you write the following command in a terminal:

$ mame
