View Full Version : [SOLVED] Install errors - 16.04.06 on HP Compaq DC5800 - ACPI etc

I'm trying to install Ubuntu 16 onto an old HP Compaq DC5800 which currently boots windows vista. (I've updated the bios v.01.06 which seemed to be a prerequisite for this hardware.)

This is my first Ubuntu rodeo and i'm struggling with these three ACPI errors. (For context this is the first i've heard of ACPI).

Here is an image of the error(s):
284683

Here are some of the bios configuration settings I have available (i'm not sure how relevant this is but I hope it might be):
284684

284685

I'd appreciate any help. Thank you in advance. I'd also really appreciate if you can assume a low level of knowledge on my part when targeting your feedback. I've scoured the web for help with this but a lot of the suggestions were for fixing already installed versions of ubunto by editing files etc - so just a reminder: i'm trying to install Ubuntu from USB but it doesn't get very far at all and pretty much comes up with these errors straight away.

Thanks!

Hi, welcome to the fora.

There is no need to use old software because you have semi-old hardware. I have a DC 7700 (https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=361236&page=86&p=12775075&viewfull=1#post12775075) which runs great with Xubuntu 19.10, and I suggest that you try a live boot of this one to see if there are any differences.

Thanks for the suggestion, but the reason I choose Ubuntu is because it is listed as supporting plex server software. Xubuntu was not on the list.

All the Buntus are more or less the same behind the user interface. This method should work for them all including Xubuntu.

Hi mörgæs. Thank you for your suggestion. I'm installing xubuntu as I type. I was initially worried it wouldn't work because the same 3 ACPI errors came up, but then quickly went away again and the installation process is continuing. Fingers crossed. Thanks again.
