Trying to install on an HP Stream Notebook model 13-c120nr

I adjusted the BIOS for legacy support and can get to the ubuntu screen.

I choose "install" and a host of random strings of data appear.

Then I get a DOS like splash screen which just says ubuntu with 4 progress dots.

After about a minute of the dots "cycling", screen goes black. Black as in OFF/no signal to the display. The computer is still on but that's it.

I suspect the hard drive is bad but I can't confirm it.

Anything else I should be considering?

Are you able to run a live boot here?

The hardware could be too weak for Ubuntu. Have you tried Mate/Lubuntu/Xubuntu or an other light Buntu?

It supposed to run Windows 10 out of the box. Is ubuntu more resource intensive than Win10?

I don't use Windows so I don't know.
The best way to find out is to test a number of light distros.
