I just did a re-install (16.04) after experiencing a problem that seemed unsolvable. What I can't figure out is why I can't get a menu drop-down in the taskbar. I had it in the previous install and don't remember doing anything special to get it other than installing alacarte. The .local/share/applications directory contains files alacarte.desktop alacarte-made-1.desktop and alacarte-made.desktop (all with read permission) for what that's worth. What the heck am I missing? I can't find an answer to this question anywhere and I've spent hours looking. Maybe I'm not asking the question in the right way.
