battery power meter missing

After I upgraded to 18.04 the battery power meter vanished from its usual place. I've tried a few things but information about this issue on the internet relates to earlier versions of Ubuntu and the file names and file contents seem to be different. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for replying. Not sure what you mean. If I go to "Details" I get Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS. Is that it?

It's the official distribution with Gnome & not Unity.
