I just tried upgrading from Ubuntu 14.04 to 16.04, but the upgrade hanged during the install process. How do I safely cancel the process?
Current status:
> Installing the upgrades
-- Configuring python-tornado (amd64)
--- Starting irc server daemon: ircdServer irc.localhost (000A) version 2.11.2p3 starting.
I started the upgrade before I went to sleep and it still hasn't completed (~7 hrs). Additionally, I've verified that it's still on the starting irc server daemon task for at least 45 minutes since I've woken up. How do I safely back out of the upgrade process so I can try again?
Note: upgrade was done through the software updater tool.
