I have a desktop computer not connected to internet which I would like to use just for watching videos. It has lubuntu 18.04, but has a glitch when gnome mplayer tries to play a dvd. It seems the only way to fix this is by downloading things through the terminal, which I cannot do since the computer is not connected to internet.

Is there a way to download the things needed on another computer and then transfer them to the computer in question? For instance, how would I find them if I were to transfer them to a usb stick?

You could goto osdisc.com and find your version and purchase the repos on dvds. This site has almost every distro out there. You want the repos dvd set which is from 4 to 7 discs. They go from 15.00 dollars to 25.00 dollars. I have an earlier version put away with this repo pack of 5 dvds , in case needed if internet goes away and i want to install ubuntu.

I haven't done this in a while and the package I use is dead. I did find another one that you can try.

For just a few packages you could do it in terminal (method#2).

or install a snap version of the media player. you can download snap elsewhere and then install it to your pc.

otherwise there is a way to do it with synaptic manager where you can download the packages you need and connected ones for offline install.:

If just order the repos on dvd you would not have to download anything except special items. And as my understanding is the security updates at the time of making is included. So not internet needed for a normal install. I have the repo disks for kubuntu 18.04 put away just in case. I like this version.
