A new link added to the boot menu which allows non technical users to boot into a linux in crisis help setup which forgoes logging in and takes you directly to browsers, IRC and various other usefull information for getting your system back up and running?

You mean like a live CD?

No, because that assumes several things. 1) a user has a live cd, 2) the user installed the system 3) they know where to find help 4) their bios settings have not changed.

even if the damn thing just gave instructions for using the live cd, at least that would be something. or perhaps a recovery cd specific to fixing existing systems?
