View Full Version : [server] Booting image from USB, getting a live Ubuntu desktop instead of an installer

Hi,

I Downloaded the server image from https://www.ubuntu.com/download. On macOS, I created the bootable USB flash drive using balenaEtcher (as described in the tutorials).

Then I plugged the USB into my Dell Tower, pressed F12 to go in boot menu, and booted the flash drive in UEFI mode.

It boots, but I get a live Desktop running from the USB drive, rather than an Installer as I expected.

What am I doing wrong here ?

If you don't press any button when the boot starts, it automatically boots to "Try Ubuntu without installing". But you should still have an "Install Ubuntu" desktop shortcut that you can use to launch the Ubuntu installer. Like in the top left-hand side corner of this screenshot (https://i.imgur.com/0GMnDKA.png).
