Linux on the (TV)Desktop

Hi,

have you ever thought about the appearance of Linux Desktop Environments in tv-shows and movies? It's quite interesting that for a long time Mac OSX was holding the major market share within this segment:-) But watching "Surface" yesterday on german television I recognized the protagonist using a PowerBook that was running some GNOME environment (BlueCurve-Metacity theme) and Mozilla Thunderbird ... Hooray, thumbs up for free software.

Is anyone interested in collecting images demonstrating the use of Linux on the (tv)desktop??

Free software's economic advantage demonstrated once again. In order to show someone using a computer in a film/television program in the past, one also had to obtain permission from the owner of the software involved and negotiate with them for a license to use their intellectual property in your film.

In the case of Apple, the fees might be exorbitant. With Free Software, you are premitted to do this...gratis.

its very rare to find win xp on a tv show or film. its mostly either linux-that-looks-a-bit-like-windows, or its mac os. if they want something stylish they'll usually go with macs and pay apple for the privilage, since it'd probably cost them more to employ someone to make linux look pretty.
