I've been running Ubuntu 16 on a Dell XPS 15 model 9560 for 2 years. I bought a new Dell XPS 15 model 9570, but can't install Ubuntu 18 on it https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2413124&p=13839483#post13839483. So I'm going to return it and go with another laptop.

What's a good high end laptop that will run Ubuntu reliably? The specs I need are a core I7 processor, at least 16 GB RAM, and at least a 1 TB SSD.

Thanks.

Dell sell laptops with Ubuntu pre-installed. The marketing name they use is Developer Edition. Searching for "Project Sputnik" will give you more information about it.

The laptops I saw on Dell's web site had Ubuntu 16.04 which is obsolete. Here is the system that I got to work with Ubuntu 18.04.2:

At the time of this post it's on sale for $1899, with is a good price for a laptop with those specs. Here's what I had to do to get Ubuntu 18.04.2 installed on that laptop:

Ubuntu 16.04 does not reach end of life until April 2021 so it is not obsolete, I would not choose to install it but that is my personal preference.
