I replaced Xp with xubuntu by clicking replace xp with xubuntu thinking that it will only replace XP professional and will keep my partitions and data as it is. But after installation I see that a single partition of 160 gb exists thereby deleting all my data.
I want to recover my lost data. Can somebody tell me how?

Yes, when it says it will wipe the drive it will indeed wipe the entire physical hard drive.

Don't use your hard drive. Have a look here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DataRecovery
You can probably recover quite a lot of files, but not everything, and it may take a lot of work to get the recovered files organised.
