I don't recall updates two days ago when this started. I upgraded from 16.04.3 months ago. I couldn't find a recovery option from the dvd. I put in my password, screen goes blank & back to log in... I reboot, hold shift, tried some options in recovery mode & now I get a scrambled screen instead of a blank one & back to login. I hold control+alt+f2 & it says login incorrect. What else can I do to get back in? Tried to scan files...
/lib/recovery-mode/recovery-mode: line 80: /ect/default/rcS: No such file or directory
fsck from util-linux 2.31.1.
/dev/sda1 is mounted
e2fsck: Cannot continue, aborting.
I've tried to reinstall from 18.04 dvd,no luck. I burned a recovery disk that said it worked, but no change. It did let me see the files are there, but all locked. I attempted the fail safe mode & it just kept freezing up.
