This morning I turned on my machine and noticed that my connection icons were no longer there (connected, vpn, network). I then tried to ping yahoo.com and it pinged just fine. I then tried to open the snope site and had no problem (also yahoo). So, my network seems to be working just fine but all the icons are missing. I also did a alt f2 and restarted gnome. Everything worked! Oh, I also have the gnome extension for tell me if the vpn is up or down and that too is working (currently tells me "VPN is up!).

So, my network is working fine but my icons have all gone away. The only thing I haven't done, yet, is reboot but, still, this is not right. I am wondering, is something like this a harbinger of disaster to follow?

Thoughts?

After I re-installed ubuntu the problem went away so it was an ubuntu problem but, I guess, nobody else had to deal with it so I will mark this one as solved...........
