I have Kubuntu 18.04.1 and I'm still having some lockups due to Raven Ridge (Ryzen 2400G), and I can see that a lot of new firmware is available for that CPU, so how do I install latest firmware from https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/firmware/linux-firmware.git and is it safe to do so?

Using the Hardware Enablement stack is probably easier and safer than trying to use the latest in-development stuff. It will give you a newer kernel and newer graphics stack. I don't have an APU to know if it's recent enough to give you the changes you're interested in.
