Hi, I have a Shuttle Barebone XS36V, which has an Intel GMA3650 Graphics card. The computer is connected via HDMI to an HD TV as a display. Previously 12.04 was installed (without any install issues I think). I have removed this and tried installing: 18.04 desktop &server, 18.10 desktop all fail. Debian9.6 installs but on boot the black screen occurs after grub completes. I guess that there is a compatibility issue on the GMA3650. I have tried nomodeset, gfxpayload, gfxmode. Tried setting just "text".... Always arriving at the black screen of death. Since this will normally be a headless server I don't care about any graphics anyway. How on earth do you force grub to just boot it without the graphics and into a terminal without changing whatever display mode grub uses.
