I received a spam/hoax e.mail today purporting to be from the UK Road fund tax licensing office. What was alarming and prompted me to post here was the e.Mail address.

The "FROM" in any email can be anything. It isn't validated any more than the return address on a letter or postcard.

Nothing to see here. Move along.

For fun, I've sent emails as god@heaven.net before. It is harder to do for most people since ISPs should block outbound email from any domain that they don't know about, but if you buy a $5/month VPS, you can setup SMTP and send anything you like with any "FROM" that doesn't have DKIM or SPF protection. Email was the wild-west for a long time. Parts of the internet, still is.
